City Without Walls Exhibition for Newark Open Doors "The Price of Freedom," a multi-media exhibition curated by Jeanne Brasile, has its opening reception on Saturday, October 25, 2008, 5-7pm at City Without Walls (cWOW) main gallery on 6 Crawford Street, Newark, NJ. The reception is part of the 2008 Newark Open Doors festivities, sponsored by the Newark Arts Council, which is providing free shuttle buses to and from Newark Penn Station. The exhibition remains on view through November 26, 2008 and is free and open to the public Wednesdays through Fridays 12-6pm and Saturdays 1-6pm.

"The Price of Freedom" examines the nature and agency of democracy, freedom and human rights, all of which are especially relevant during this presidential election season.

The exhibition includes works by dozens of artists from New Jersey and beyond: Daniel Alvarado (Red Bank, NJ), John Avelluto (Brooklyn, NY), Gianluca Bianchino (Little Falls, NJ), Kathy A. Budd (Oswego, NY), Jose Camacho (Montclair, NJ), Mary Dritschel (Chicago, IL), Christian Faur (Granville, OH), Leandro Carlos Flaherty (Bronx, NY), Marianne Fourie (Jersey City, NJ), Asha Ganpat (Newark, NJ), Martha Kelshaw (Bernardsville, NJ), Carlos Motta (Bogota, Columbia), Ivan Petrovsky (Wayne, NJ), Ryan Roa (Tenafly, NJ), Liz Rossof (Mill Valley, CA), Thomas Schmelzer (Munich, Germany), Nyugen Smith (Jersey City, NJ), Charlee Swanson (Montclair, NJ), Carlo Vialu (Brooklyn, NY), Raul Villareal (Verona, NJ), Christopher W. Weeks (Tampa, FL), and Heather Willems (Brooklyn, NY).

In her curatorial statement, Jeanne Brasile writes: "it is my hope that visitors will be inspired by the artists. [to] exercise their freedoms and participate in the democratic process as fully as possible."

City Without Walls (cWOW) is an urban gallery of emerging art that advances the careers of artists while building the audience for contemporary art. Founded in 1975, cWOW is New Jersey's oldest not-forprofit alternative art space. cWOW is a three-time recipient of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts Citation of Excellence.
