In sleepy Bloomingdale, there is a place where ice cream and music blend into a smooth, sweet sound and taste.

The Ice Cream Bakery (78  Main Street, Bloomingdale, 973-283-8887) looks like a Carvel store. That’s because it was, until a few years back, when Tony and Sabina moved here and bought the place from her relatives.  They decided the combo of ice cream and music would give them a great occupation, in their semi-retirement.

Tony, a former Navy engineer in the Philippines, played piano all his life as his second career (his credits supposedly include the Ed Sullivan Show, and a command performance for President Eisenhower and the president of Taiwan).

He bought a piano, a used baby grand that fills the back of the small shop, to bring his music into his workplace.

He tinkles the keys while Sabina sprinkles the cones and sundaes, as the locals line up for their favorite fixin’s. Tony plays Broadway melodies, movie themes, and classical tunes. You name it, he knows it.

We sampled the music, and the ice cream for you… you can enjoy our music video on the NJ My Way  homepage.

As for the ice cream, we suggest you make this little storefront in Bloomingdale part of your desert itinerary. You won’t find a better topping for your sundae.
