Husbands and Significant Others, take note: My totally unscientific survey of female friends recently found that a) Everyone would like to receive a diamond this holiday season. b) The most sought after stone is a stud. This season’s other hot rock-et styles are the “Journey Diamonds” -- formally defined as a piece of jewelry containing at least four diamonds arranged in a pattern from smallest to largest. This is supposed to signify the deepening commitment we have to our better half as time goes on. In other words, let someone else buy this one for you. Grab the stud for yourself! These little rocks, faux or real, are classically chic, yet so desirable right now! Studs go with every look; they allow you to slum with substance, or tone down wildly unpredictable outfits with simple, elegant earrings. A real diamond is a deeply personal purchase, as well as a significant financial commitment Cut, clarity, color, carat, ka-ching! Let an experienced jeweler guide your way. I suggest Gregg Metzler who has an extensive stud collection at Jewelry Studio in Stone Harbor. (www.jewelry-studio.com) He had the patience to explain the characteristics of different diamonds, even as his store was crowded with shoppers. Also jammed was Terry Ivory Jewelry (www.terryivory.com) across the street. This funky, friendly store has more faux then real, but excellent choices and great prices! It will be hard to leave Stone Harbor without buying some kind of rock! Tomorrow: great ideas for your weekend adventures.
